Charlie’s Take on Local Control

Superintendent of the Medina City Schools for 13 years, Charlie Irish recently shared his take on local control:  “It seems to me that the legislature has no power to take away or grant local control.  Our citizens make those decisions.  When we think we need to ask the legislature for something, then we have no concept of what local control means.”  Since retiring from the superintendency, Charlie has been working with the Kettering Foundation.  Kettering is an internationally renowned research institution devoted to trying to find ways to increase citizen participation in society by asking the question, “What does it take to make democracy work as it should?”
