Our Children’s First Educator

In a recent interview with Big Think, our nation’s foremost educational historian, Diane Ravitch, affirmed what she feels really matters when it comes to learning — inside schools and out.  She believes that, contrary to conventional wisdom, it is not K-12 teachers who are most responsible for kids’ progress.  Ages 0-5, she contends, are some of the most developmentally important with continued resonance throughout one’s entire life.  Her conclusion is that our children’s first educator is their family.  Her article and 2:51 minute video are worth reading and watching.
