A Plan to Respond to ODE’s ESSA Policy
The public school superintendents in Lorain County have created a plan to strengthen their voices when they respond to the Ohio Department of Education’s policy on the Every Student Succeeds Act. Their plan is simple. Upon release of ODE’s proposed ESSA policy, Lorain County’s superintendents will draft a response. They will then invite 30-50 stakeholders in each of their communities to a public information meeting to review and discuss their proposed response. Following the public meeting, each board of education will adopt a resolution regarding its community’s position on ODE’s proposed ESSA policy. In addition, the community stakeholders will be asked to share their views on ODE’s policy with their state legislators.
