Creating a Statewide Movement
In 1999, some of Ohio’s leading educators and I wrote about the power to embrace an idea and turn it into a movement. In our book, The Power of Public Engagement: A beacon of hope for America’s schools, we explained that one of the major precepts of quantum theory is that information is more than content. It is the creative energy of the universe. In quantum physics, when you take the electrons in an atom and line them up, after you reach a critical mass, all the rest of the atoms align almost magically. So, when feelings are strong and the energy level is high, information can dominate a stream of collective consciousness of a small group, a community, or even a nation. This explains how a growing group of highly motivated school superintendents are gradually turning their idea of restoring local control of Ohio’s public schools into statewide movement.
